Value is the lightness or darkness of an object. It is also a property of the element of art color. There are several ways to achieve value: additive value means you add value to increase the value or tone of an object. With subtractive value, one begins with a darker "ground" , such as charcoal, and lifts out the various value tones with eraser or other means.
