Negative Space
Shape, form and space are all closely related. In art, a shape is an area clearly set off by one or more of the elements of art. An artist fits together the positive shapes and negative spaces within the format or bounding edges of the composition. If you draw objects as individual items without considering the spaces between them, they tend to have no relationship to one another, and will "float". There are three types of shapes: organic, inorganic, and amorphous.
SPACE is the area above, beneath, around, below and within positive objects. When you don't pay attention to the negative space in or around an object, it ends up being out of proportion.
